Camera hangs and don´t accept reset!

I have two battery driven Nedis cameras WiFICBO10WT, they have always functioned well – except that they refuse to function with memory cards, no matter what speeds or make of SDHC-cards I try – until yesterday.

Yesterday there was a suggested firmware-upgrade, when I checked the pics from the cameras. It worked well with the first camera. But hung the second. Both cameras had 80% battery left according to the indicator before the upgrade. I followed the instructions and waited “several minutes” after initiating the upgrade. The first camera came back online by itself, the second just hung.. the app said it was “offline”.

So I initiated a reset – with the camera ON. I pushed the reset-button on the back for about 10 seconds, while the WiFi lamp was on with a steady light (indicating no Wifi-connection available). The lamp did not change it was still ON with a steady light (however the router was a few meters away with free sight). Then followed the instructions and pushed the ON/OFF button of the camera for about 5 seconds. The camera went OFF. Then I turned it ON again, by pushing the ON/OFF button for about 5 seconds.

It went ON as expected, but still with the WiFi lamp lighting steady… and the app still reporting it as offline.

I have repeated the sequence several times now to no avail, I guess it has crashed?

I will make a report of this to Nedis-support, and recommend other users NOT to do this firmware update, until Nedis have resolved the situation!

Anybody else that have had problems with yesterdays firmware upgrade?

Calculation Error of power from NEDIS SmartPlug

I have installed a Air/Air heatpump/AC in my countryhouse 75km´s from home. I wanted a remotely controlled SmartPlug to monitor the power usage of the heatpump/AC.

It has worked VERY well!

Until I got a feeling that the powerbill was larger than expected? The only power used there is the Wifi extender (that hooks up to the neighbours WiFi connected fiber Internet), two Nedis cameras, a D-link camera and three smart plugs (for the cameras) and this Nedis WIFIPO120FWT smart plug for the heatpump/AC. And thats it! no other appliances that draws any power from the net. And the cameras draws a few watts..

So I was confused that the powerbill was some 51% higher than what the heatpump had used according to its smart plug?

But I had the answer right in front of me, when checking the stats of the powerplug every now and then.

Sure thing, 1,772 A x 213,7 V = 379 W … NOT 235 W !!

The fault is off by a factor of 1,6, which pretty much is the difference between the recorded energy of December 63 kWh compared to the bill for December, saying 95 kWh or 1,51 times what the smart plug logged.

Could any body else using this smartplug verify this as a systematic fault, or is it just my unit that is faulty?

Could it be that the power plug measures the power as Amps and Voltage in phase, however the pumpmotor is an inductive load, thus drawing a higher reactive power than just the resistive?

To be of any value, the powermeter must measure the way the electric company is billing, right?!

I have gathered logs over time, it does not seem to be any pattern in the fault of the calculations? I will report this to Nedis-support and hear what they have to say?

Welcome to the first blog post!

Hi! I am Christian Nissen the author of this blog, I have thought for some time now, that we the users of Nedis-products would need a forum to assemble a community.

To spread knowledge of HOW to use all the cleverness of many of these products, so badly expressed with their all to thin documentation. I think especially of how to make full use of the “Smart scenes“. However being a programmer since the 70-ies, I have to experiment and find my way through “trial and error” every time! Different Nedis even use the smart scenes in various ways, no standard seems to exist here? What functions are available to program in various products? I have no idea from the documentation? Lets get together and sort this out by using the expertise of all You users! With examples and notes. This will become a thread of its own in the Forum-section of this blog. Become a member today! Its of course free….

I have quite many Nedis-cameras of three types, two of them rely on installed microSDHC-memorycards to store events and recordings. I have tried all sorts of speeds and classes of such cards, recommended by Nedis-support, but they never work stable. I have never heard of products that can´t cope with various memorycards?, as long as they are speedy enough, to record in the tempo the unit tries to feed the info? Except for Nedis cameras then… Nedis support claims now, that ONLY their own make, can be expected to work stable with their cameras!? Of which nothing of course is written in their sales-material… I think Nedis ows the users, to upgrade the soft/firmware, enabling most microSDHC-cards to work! Especially as the Nedis-cards are very hard to come by in the normal channels, leaving just a few e-shops far away, to supply them at cost and time. What do You think? What is Your experience?
